The NFL has no shortage of juicy storylines heading into the offseason. Many high-level players may be on new teams next season via free agency or trade. One name that everyone is watching is Sean Payton. After taking a year off from coaching, he is now the most coveted free-agent coach. He went on Colin Cowherd’s show and said he would “absolutely” consider a coaching position many think he shouldn’t, the Houston Texans.
Sean Payton, open and honest, with Colin Cowherd about the Texans job. Says he’s familiar with Cal McNair, likes the AFC South, and has a prior relationship with Nick Caserio through the Saints/Patriots relationship. He’s meeting with McNair this week. https://t.co/RVfR8zxiAF

Payton was very open with Cowherd on a lot of aspects of his hiring process. He spoke about the Texans and what he likes about them. “They’ve got really good draft capital,” Payton said to Cowherd. “Really good draft capital…I think there’s growth potential immediately there from their two or three wins that they had this year.” The Texans own the no. 2 and no. 12 pick in the draft. Payton would get the chance to coach a franchise quarterback and have a lot of young talent to work with. He also would be in a very winnable division. The Texans’ job has a lot of good aspects to it.
Payton has no shortage of suitors. Every team that has fired their head coach has contacted Payton about setting up an interview. Payton also revealed in the interview that the Saints are looking for a mid-to-late first-round pick for him. This is another reason the Texans would be a good option. They could offer the 12th pick while hanging onto the 2nd pick. Not many teams would be able to match that kind of offer.
Sean Payton to the Houston Texans would be really interesting for NFL fans to watch. Payton would get probably either Bryce Young or CJ Stroud and a good young roster. Other teams will not go quietly though. Outside of players, Payton is the top prize this offseason.
