What should have been a joyous time for Maycee Barber turned scary following UFC 299.

Barber won her sixth consecutive fight when she bested Katlyn Cerminara at the recent pay-per-view in Miami. But instead of celebrating, she was hospitalized with an infection.

“Well, the past few weeks were quite the ride and included lots of highs and lots of lows,” Barber posted on social media. “There were a few moments where I wasn’t sure if I was going to be okay.

“But I know that whatever happens was meant to happen and that it’s all just another piece of the puzzle of life.”

Barber revealed that she spent nine days in the hospital. Doctors tested and treated her for an infection. They believed it to be anything from strep A to staph.

“Being in the hospital and still not having a true definitive answer,” Barber said. “Was incredibly hard.”

She noted that she had 105 degree temps, extremely low blood pressure, HR and oxygen during the stay.

“Grateful for everyone who has been by my side through it all,” Barber wrote. “Little scares like this make you really step back and appreciate those around you.

God is good and I am blessed.”

UFC Contender Maycee Barber Has Been On A Roll

The 25-year-old from Colorado has not lost since 2021. She is 14-2 overall and 9-2 in the UFC with another win on Dana White’s Contender Series.

Nicknamed “The Future,” Barber should be a top contender once cleared and ready to return to action. Recent winner Rose Namajunas has made it known she is interested in meeting her.

Along with besting Cerminara, Barber also owns wins over Amanda Ribas, Andrea Lee and former title challenger Jessica Eye.
