Virginia Wins Three More Titles on Day Three at ACC Swim & Dive Championships

Then came yet another historic swim for Gretchen Walsh, who turned in a time of 48.25 in the 100-yard butterfly, shattering the American, US Open, and NCAA records for the event. This marks the third time Walsh has been involved in the breaking of an NCAA and America record this week, as she twice broke the records for the 50-yard freestyle and then became the first woman to ever go sub-20 seconds during the 200-yard freestyle relay, helping Virginia's team break an American record in that event as well. Walsh has won four gold medals this week and 13 ACC titles in her career.

Finally, Aimee Canny claimed a second ACC title in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:43.10, and Maxine Parker made it 1-3 for UVA by taking third in 1:44.02.  

Virginia now has 846.5 total points and holds a 163.5-point lead over the rest of the competition in the women's standings through three days and 11 events. The UVA men currently sit in seventh with 344.5 points.

Friday's events include the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, women's platform and 400 medley relay. Prelims start at 9:30am and the finals begin at 5:30pm.
