Tyson is a North Carolina native.
Belmont transfer Cade Tyson is planning to visit Chapel Hill next weekend, according to Travis Branham. First, he will take a trip to Tennessee. Other than that, there is no intel to support him taking other visits as of today.
As Branham said in his post, Tyson is the best shooter in the portal. This season at Belmont, he averaged 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. Tyson shot 46.5% from three on over five attempts per game. The Tar Heels need a shooter in the portal to replace Cormac Ryan. At 6’7, Tyson is also around the prototypical height to play the small forward position. His shooting allows him to become a mismatch if he is put at power forward.
Tyson is from Monroe, North Carolina, which is around 159 miles away from Chapel Hill. His brother, Hunter, was a very good scorer, played at Clemson, and was selected in the second round of the 2023 NBA draft.
There are a number of major programs involved with Tyson. Getting him on campus is huge for North Carolina’s chances. Kentucky, Duke, and of course Tennessee are also involved. The Tar Heels will have the second visit, and if it goes well, could end the recruitment.
This would be a major contributor for next year’s team.
